MARIACHI ESPECTACULAR DE
Oscar Villa
Under the masterful direction of GRAMMY-nominated producer and engineer Oscar Villa, Mariachi Espectacular has carved a niche as one of the most esteemed mariachi ensembles across the United States and Mexico. Since its inception in 2005, Mariachi Espectacular has proudly held the title of the official premier all-male mariachi of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, gracing the stages of Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney, Anaheim, California. A testament to their prowess, Mariachi Espectacular was recently handpicked to perform with Mariachi Divas for the 60th Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a performance that was broadcast on PBS SoCal KCET on Christmas Day.
Oscar Villa, a third-generation mariachi, has established himself as a composer, arranger, sound engineer, and producer. His expertise as an armonía (guitar, vihuela, guitarrón) specialist, coupled with his deep understanding of the mariachi tradition, has led him to collaborate with numerous groups before taking the helm at Mariachi Espectacular. His work as a producer and sound engineer on the album 20 Aniversario, recorded by Mariachi Divas, earned a GRAMMY nomination in the Best Regional Mexican Music Album (including Tejano) category. In 2018, he served as a co-producer on the Mariachi Divas album Divas Cantan Al Principe, and his co-arrangement for the song “No Me Platiques Más (instrumental)” was nominated for Best Arrangement at the Latin GRAMMY awards.
Mariachi Espectacular has performed in the Disneyland Viva Navidad Holiday Parade for the past ten years. Comprising the best male mariachi musicians in Southern California, Mariachi Espectacular is highly sought after to perform for private and public events, as evidenced by their frequent performances for “Free Concerts” in the parks programs.
With a commitment to service, Mariachi Espectacular regularly donates its time and, through performance and teaching, has contributed to the following charitable events: Curso de Verano del Centro Universitario del Sur (CUSur) en Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco, Mexico. Teaching children ages 7-18 mariachi techniques and methods over two days (2018), Annual RosaritoBeach International Mariachi & Folklórico Festival (Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico). They are teaching children ages 7-18 years mariachi techniques and methods over three days and performing at the final concert for a fundraiser that funds the Club de Niños y Niñas Rosarito (Boys and Girls Club of Rosarito) (2009-present), Sinfonia Mexicana Mariachi Youth Academy (2009-present), Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (2000-present), Los Altos High School Fundraisers (1999-present), and numerous K-12 school fundraiser and events through Southern California (1999-present).
